“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it“ - Luke 14:28 NKJV
Whenever a new year begins, a common practice many people do is to write down new year resolutions. I don’t see it as a bad practice. However, statistics show that many of these resolutions don’t get fulfilled. Many people are goal-driven instead of growth-driven. In other words, people, especially men, like focusing on their goals instead of planning, thinking, and doing all the necessary things to achieve them.
Don’t be goal-driven. Be growth-driven.

From the opening text, Jesus didn’t condemn a person who intended to build. Instead, He said that person must count the cost involved. That means having an idea and penning it down on your table doesn’t bring it to pass. You have to count the cost involved. All things are possible with God. But that doesn’t mean everything is achieved easily.
As we start a new year, write down your new year resolutions. You may intend to build new spiritual patterns like reading the Bible 10 minutes daily, reading one book a month, losing weight, eating well, finishing a house or a course, etc. Take your time to list them down. If you don’t do it, you’ll not know what to focus your energies on this year. However, you must be wise enough to count the cost when writing them.
Don’t write down your goals and neglect planning the process of achieving them. If you do, they’ll remain as goals and won’t be made manifest. I pray God guides you as you intend to build new things and spiritual patterns this year going forward. Have a fruitful year.
You’re a blessing.
