[16] “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” – Galatians 5:16 (NKJV)
There are three primary things in the world (not the Earth): the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life (see 1 John 2:16). And the truth about them is that all of them pass away. In other words, nobody will find satisfaction in following the things of the world. People work so hard to buy material possessions. But no matter how many they buy, they don’t seem satisfied. Why? It’s because inner fulfilment is not in what a person possesses. Jesus said in Luke 12:15 that life doesn’t consist of the abundance of possessions. Today, I want to talk about how to conquer the lust of the flesh.
What’s the flesh? It refers to the sinful nature in the human body that keeps fighting after the desires of the Spirit – that is, to please God in your life. According to Galatians 5:16, the only way to conquer the lust of the flesh is to walk in the Spirit. That is it. But you may ask, what does it mean to walk in the Spirit?
As a believer, you are already in the Spirit (see Romans 8:9). You got translated into the Spirit the moment you were saved. But even though that’s your spiritual position, walking in that realm requires intentional followership of the Word and Spirit’s leading in your life. Just as it is not enough for a person to be alive without walking, so it is unprofitable to be saved without being sensitive to the directions of the Holy Spirit. Dear friend, take your fellowship with Christ seriously. The more you spend time pursuing a deeper intimacy with God, the better your life will align with the purposes of God. May the Lord guide you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for grace and mercy. Please help me to live according to your ways always, not minding the lusts of the flesh that wage war in my body. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
