[6] “But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me. [7] For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always.” – Mark 14:6-7 (NKJV)
Growing up, I had several bad ideas about how ministers should live, especially concerning money and food. I thought pastors were required to fast forever and didn’t need food. I also thought preachers didn’t need money to live. All those mental claims I had were wrong and are still bad. I say this because God has shaped me to be a minister, and I’ve seen how important it is to do ministry with lots of resources.
Unfortunately, some of Jesus’ disciples didn’t get this well. When Mary came to pour an expensive oil in the alabaster box upon His feet and wiped it with her hair, some got furious. Judas Iscariot even said that,
“Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” – John 12:5 (NKJV)
He may have said this from a sincere mind. However, I suppose he forgot that Jesus knew each person’s heart. So, He knew Judas was saying those things out of the love of money. It’s interesting how some treasurers in ministry and accountants in workplaces manoeuvre to steal from the coffers without being caught. But as Jesus said in Luke 12:2, anything hidden will eventually be revealed, no matter how long it takes. If you are a thief, it’s only a matter of time before you get caught and probably laid off.
Today, I want to focus on why you should honour your pastor in a special way without accepting complaints, just as Mary did. Mary knew that Jesus wouldn’t be with them forever. She didn’t wait for Jesus to be crucified before honouring Him. In those days, women’s hair was their glory. So, it was dishonourable before men for Mary to wipe Jesus’ feet with her hair. Nevertheless, she didn’t listen to people’s complaints before, during and after she honoured Jesus. What are you doing to honour that man of God who has fed you with sound doctrine for years?
Do not be deceived. Genuine men of God don’t really need people’s provisions. They can live well without them. But your honour can open ways for you before these anointed men in ways your work may never have gotten you that. Honour men of God.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of divine provision. Bless me with more provision so I can be a blessing to the spiritual heads you have assigned in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
