[43] “Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. [44] And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.” – Mark 10:43-44 (NKJV)

I’m one person who has been in ministerial leadership for a while. Because of that, I ask many questions, especially about why certain things don’t work well in many places I go. Later, I came to the point of understanding that administration plays a crucial role in the success of every person, family, and organisation. In Africa, where I hail from, some people fight against bureaucracy. How? By using connection men to get things done for them faster using dubious means. Unfortunately, some people have carried that mentality to church, thinking that is how things work in God’s kingdom.

God works by structures and systems. And the good news is that all of these things are clearly written in the Bible. For instance, if you ask God amiss, it’s written in James 4:3 that you’ll not receive your request. It’s that simple! And let me tell you that God doesn’t amend His Word. It is fixed!

Today, I want to minister on God’s way of lifting people to greatness. It’s a simple system you ought to submit to.

Jesus said to His disciples in Mark 10:43 that whoever desires to be great amongst them must be everybody’s servant. And whoever desires to be first must be the slave of all. That means that serving God’s people in humility is how He promotes people to greatness. Now, that’s not the only means, because there’s the principle of faithfulness and fruitfulness also (see Luke 16:10-12, John 15:2). But even these two hinge on selfless service. You must serve your way up.

The more people you serve, the greater God makes you. If you see a pastor having a church attendance maxing over a thousand each week, it’s not because he’s special. It means that God has entrusted him with the lives of many people to disciple because He, God, knows His servant can manage them. This is why many people link success in Christ to blossoming in anything a person is doing.

God is the lifter of men. And if all people will learn and follow His ways, He’ll give everyone the chance to enjoy the rewards written therein for them.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to learn Your ways and follow them accordingly. If Your Word never fails, then I can bet my life on You that You’ll never fail me. Thank you, Jesus. Amen!
