“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.” — James 1:21 NKJV
God doesn’t create problems for us as believers. However, He allows some of them to happen to us in order to teach us new things about eternal life that we don’t know.
Joseph, in the Bible, had two dreams that showed that his whole family would bow to him. He shared them with his father and siblings. His father wasn’t comfortable with the vision’s interpretation, but he treasured what his son said in his mind (Genesis 37:10-11). On the other hand, his siblings hated him because of his dreams. So later, they sold him to some Ishmaelites, who were on their way to Egypt.
I suppose Joseph was so distraught, seeing all his dreams shattered since he was getting separated from his family. In Egypt, he faced many troubles and even went to prison because of a false accusation. But in the end, he became Egypt’s prime minister and later reconnected to his biological family.
After Jacob died, his brothers thought Joseph would kill all of them because of the evil thing they did to him. But Joseph acted differently. He told them that God sent him to Egypt ahead of them so they would not die out of hunger during the famine.
By that time, God had worked His Word so deeply in Joseph that he had grown not only physically but also in much spiritual understanding.
Some situations in your life may persist for years before it’s permanently solved. And although God didn’t make it, He’ll use it to teach you how practical His Word is.
James 1:21 tells us to lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness so that we can receive the engrafted Word of God that is being presented to us indirectly through the trials that we go through.
Someone may delay you, but before God, it’s a means to build His patience through you. Your father may have abandoned you, but before God, it’s to teach you how to love your children and provide for them far better than what your earthly father did to you.
Let’s stop complaining to God about why He’s not changing every situation in our lives instantly. He wants us to experience spiritual growth through trials. For trials bring discomfort, and staying in your comfort zone doesn’t help you. Discern the speakings of God in your situation today.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, I pray I’ll be able to discern what You want to communicate to me anytime you allow me to face some life issues so that I’ll behold the practicality of Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
