Do Everything Without Grumbling

[14] “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, [15] so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky” – Philippians 2:14-15 (NIV)

Grumbling is a form of attitude geared toward people expressing their dissatisfaction with a situation they are facing. Is it a good practice? No! Grumbling about a situation doesn’t solve it; it is your actions in an effort to solve it that bring about change. And to be a problem solver instead of a grumbler (or complainer), you need to have a leadership mindset.

In the Old Testament, the Israelites in the wilderness were fond of complaining about almost everything God provided for them through the leadership of Moses. They had manna, yet were not satisfied. They complained about a lack of water, meat, and food varieties, you name them. The awe and splendour of God leading them by a cloud by day and pillar of fire by night didn’t even bring some form of satisfaction to them. They were always grumbling, to the extent that God called them stiff-necked people (see Exodus 32:9).

There is something I have realised about life. Although not really good, monthly caps on your income and financial constraints have a way of teaching people patience and planning towards the future. Without this approach to problems, one will grumble about so many things. Yes, I understand that not all life problems are related to money, directly or indirectly. But generally speaking, being content with all that God has provided for you as you hope for better days ahead helps you to be patient in life. Don’t be so concerned with the many things you want to get. Instead, do everything without grumbling as you obey God step by step.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to do everything You tell me to do without grumbling. I believe that with You on my side, things will become better for me with time. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
