When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.” — Mark 5:6 - 7 NKJV
You’re a man of God. And God is using your life to bless many people. Imagine you enter one city, and then a man from nowhere comes to honour you. What do you do? You’ll be surprised, but will you start giving yourself accolades for that happening? Be wise! Not every appraisal from men is genuine. Some are flatteries. You practise discerning voices in people’s talks.
Look at Jesus. He entered the region of Gerasenes one day and was immediately approached and worshipped by a demon-possessed man. Jesus didn’t do anything initially. He made the man continue talking so that He’d have ample time to discern the voice speaking – whether it was the man or demons.
As that possessed man kept talking, he cried out with a loud voice, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.” After that statement, Jesus knew that even though it was the man’s voice, demons were behind those words. So by divine authority, He responded, “… Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” (Mark 5:8 NKJV). Eventually, this man was delivered from over six thousand demons.
Minister of God, it’s not every human voice that speaks to you that’s actually a human voice. Sometimes, it’s God speaking through people to you. Other times, it’s demons. And also, sometimes, it’s the people themselves. If you make the mistake of not discerning voices in people’s talks, you’ll end up misinterpreting people and always blaming yourself for doing wrong things.
In this world, too many people are living under demonic oppression to talk in their right senses. Some people are so accustomed to demonic manipulation that they don’t even know evil spirits are behind their actions. Don’t be slack, child of God! Let Him open your eyes so that you can discern spirits well and minister well to His people.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for love and peace. Put me in training systems and structures that will enable me to develop a sharper discernment of voices in people’s talks. So that by grace, I’ll be able to minister accurately to Your people. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
