Are You Disqualifying Yourself From Embracing God’s Call?

“Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.” — Jeremiah 1:6 KJV

Many times it’s seen in scripture that many people look at how unworthy and unqualified they are when God reveals their divine mandates to them in order to carry them out. It started with Moses. God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. But before he embraced this mandate, he complained about the Israelites not believing that God had sent him (Exodus 4:1), his stammering infirmity (Exodus 4:10) and his inferiority complex before Pharaoh (Exodus 3:11). But God was relentless. He saw the potential in this man and still decided to send him. In the end, Moses’ mission was successful.

Another example of this tragic happening is Jeremiah. When God called him to preach the gospel, he told God he was a child. And truth be told, he was, although there’s no traceable article or writing to verify his specific age as of that time. But we know that it’s impossible to lie to God when He is speaking to us. God told Jeremiah that He had placed His Word on his tongue (Jeremiah 1:9). Then He showed Him what He had called this boy to do, and that was the end of their maiden conversation.

The truth is that God isn’t only our heavenly Father. He’s also our leader. That means He sees the potential in us much more than we do. He knows the exploits of faith you can do with the power of the Holy Spirit in you, even if you don’t know them. And those things are far greater than whatever you’re seeing now. So when He calls you, He’s giving you a vision — foresight of where He’s taking you. That’s why for every visionary person’s life in Christ, his mind is ahead of his body. And it was the same for Jesus. The Bible says in Hebrews 12:2 that

looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2 KJV

The joy of seeing many people getting saved after He Jesus had paid the price of sin for them inspired Him to endure everything on the cross (Hebrews 2:10).

So it’s clear that God sees your future from your present. But if you’re not thinking like this, you’ll complain to God when He sends you to do something in His name without much resources and expertise.

God sees your future from your present.

Are you disqualifying yourself from embracing God’s call upon your life? Do you see the bad situations in your life today as a hindrance to God’s glorious future for you? It’s time to put excuses aside. Stop thinking you must be perfect in doing something well before embracing God’s call. Yes, you’ll be uncomfortable beginning something you don’t know how to do. But will you obey God? Trust Him with your life today. You’ll have a glorious future doing this.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that whatever the thoughts that prevent me from embracing your call be cast down in my mind. Give me foresight about where you’ve planned that I would be in future today so that I’ll be inspired to obey Your commands today, even those which don’t make sense to me. Amen!
