“And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.” - Matthew 2:12 NIV
God, as well as humans, have multiple ways of doing the same things. There’s nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastics 1:9). But sometimes, we get so used to one way of doing things that we hardly consider other better ways of doing them. However, there’s still room for change.
The Magi (wise men) used a route to get to Bethlehem. On that route, they passed by Herod. So if they had used the same passage during their return, they’d have given Herod information about Jesus so that he’d use it to find and kill Him (Jesus). They didn’t know Herod wanted Jesus dead, so they planned on using the same route upon returning from Bethlehem. But God saved Jesus’ life through their obedience to His warning.
God didn’t give them a reason not to return to Herod. He just gave them an instruction to use another route. And fortunately, they obeyed without hesitation.
Sometimes, you may not know why God tells you to do something, but if you know it’s God speaking to you, just do it.
The Magi placed God’s instruction above the Herod’s words, whether they were afraid or not. God’s Word is always superior to any voice on this earth. If He tells you to use another route when you’re traveling this season or change your way of doing something, know that it’s for both your good and those connected to you. Obey God without complaining. Merry Christmas.
You’re a blessing.
