“What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.” — Nahum 1:9 KJV
No Christian is protected from facing troubles in life. Jesus said in John 16:33 (KJV) that
“… In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
So it’s clear that tribulation will happen multiple times in the life of every child of God. However, how we respond when they come will determine whether they’ll break us or God will use them to engraft His word in our lives.
Nahum gives us a prophecy that I urge every Christian to take seriously. He says affliction won’t rise up a second time. However, before that, he said clearly that all those kinds of afflictions are those whom people imagine against the Lord.
So, for example, let’s say a friend imagines killing you through food poisoning. You as a child of God won’t die because God will protect you even if you eat that food unknowing that it has been poisoned. Jesus said,
“… and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”
Mark 16:18 KJV
Note that Jesus didn’t say, “when they drink any deadly thing…”. That means if a child of God eats poisoned food unbeknownst to him, God’s power will keep him from dying. It’s not about testing God’s power by intentionally eating what you know it’s poisoned.
Affliction won’t rise a second time. What you are facing today is temporary. If the issues you are facing today aren’t the vision God showed you, it’s temporary. Go through it with God’s strength, and He’ll guide you. Always remember that God is with you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, give me the strength to face the challenges that come my way as I follow You. Show me what You intend to teach me in every situation I find myself in so that I’ll not miss. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
