[29] So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, [30] who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.” – Luke 18:29-30 (NKJV)
One time, a rich man approached Jesus to find out how he could obtain eternal life since he had followed the commandments in the Old Testament since his youth. Well, Jesus assessed the situation and said something to weigh his heart in the end. So, He told the rich man to go and sell his possessions and give them to the poor. But the man was unwilling to do that. Guess what? Jesus immediately knew that money had become a god in the man’s heart, and for that reason, he could not enter the kingdom of God (or could not be born again). God doesn’t share the heart of a man with anything!
But after that incident, Jesus’ disciples became terrified and asked about the surety of their salvation. Then Jesus replied that what is impossible with man is possible with God. But Peter, being the outspoken disciple, was unsatisfied with that answer. He asked Jesus what they’d get in return for abandoning all that they were doing to follow Him. Then Jesus replied, “… there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.” So, your forsaking of other things to follow the gospel of Christ is a worthy kingdom sacrifice which you’ll reap bountifully unto God’s glory.
Don’t worry about the struggles you are going through today because you chose to obey Jesus. Your family members may not support that decision (especially among young adults in Africa, where parents usually don’t want their children to become pastors). But press on to make your calling and election in Christ evident unto all. The Lord Jesus, who began a good work in you, will continue with you until the day Jesus comes back.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to keep sacrificing to see Your kingdom advance in many areas of the Earth. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
