A Statement of Humility

[8] “To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, [9] and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ;” – Ephesians 3:8-9 (NKJV)

When I read Ephesians 3:8, I felt a great depth of humility in Paul’s statement. He didn’t say, “I was the least of all the saints.” No. He said, “…who am less than the least of all the saints …”. That means despite all the exploits he has wrought on the face of this Earth for the sake of Christ, he still counted himself as the least of the saints. What a statement of humility. Can you, as a preacher, say this about yourself?

There are too many people who see just a little facet of God’s magnificent ministry impact and then start to boast about it. They take God’s glory for helping them to achieve such a height of impact without realising it. Nebuchadnezzar fell victim to this sin, and God punished him by making him dwell in a bush, eating grasses like an animal for seven years before he came back to his senses (see Daniel 4:33-34).

God is sovereign. He never forces people on what to do. But He is very strict with His principles and ways as written in scripture. If you exalt yourself, He will bring you down. And if you humble yourself before Him, He will lift you up in due time. Let Jesus remain Lord over your life. He will never put you to shame.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your immense love towards me. Help me to remain humble under Your mighty hand as I wait for You to lift me up in Your time. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
