The Discerning Heart Seeks Knowledge

[14] “The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.” – Proverbs 15:14 (NIV)

What does it mean to be discerning? Simply put, it means being a person who thinks deeply about things in order to understand them. Right? So, when the Bible says the discerning heart seeks knowledge, it refers to the conscious effort the person carrying that kind of heart puts into figuring out how things should work in what he’s getting involved in. And that is very important. Jesus said in Luke 14:28-30 (NKJV) that,

[28] “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— [29] lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, [30] saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’?

Just read the scripture again. It takes a discerning heart to understand the magnitude of the work involved in building anything—be it a house, institution, ministry, or corporation. You need not only passion to succeed in what you do; discernment is also key.

Invest in knowledge. Be a reader of relevant resources, particularly from Christian authors in your area of work and ministry, so that you’ll not be ignorant of making your life better with what you have decided to do. The God of all grace is with you.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your love and care in my life. Help me to have a discerning heart so that I can do what I have set my heart to do with much wisdom and understanding. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
