Combating Laziness at Work – An Open Letter to All Workers on International Labour Day

Excerpt

If you are in Zion (signifying those born again) and your life is too flexible (at ease or lazy), there’s something wrong. Why? In God’s kingdom, there is pressure to make advancements to establish God’s purposes on Earth. Don't entertain laziness in your life.

Laziness is one of the words many employers (not employees) don’t like hearing. I once read a book by a renowned author in the United States, and he said laziness at work is just like stealing. You are in the office shirking responsibility; meanwhile, you want to be paid at the end of the month. I agree with the author. However, as a worker, you have to learn to avoid laziness at work at all costs.

Woe to those at ease in Zion

In Amos 6:1 (NKJV), the Bible says,

Woe to you who are at ease in Zion,
And trust in Mount Samaria,
Notable persons in the chief nation,
To whom the house of Israel comes!”

My emphasis is on the first part of the scripture. Guess what it means? If you are in Zion (signifying those born again) and your life is too flexible (at ease or lazy), there’s something wrong. Why? In God’s kingdom, there is pressure to make advancements to establish God’s purposes on Earth. That is why it is so beautiful to be a Christian who’s also a dreamer because the Holy Spirit will show you what to do in every situation to get better.

Put your brain to work

Maybe you feel like your employer doesn’t load you with work, so it makes you look lackadaisical. But I want you to break that limit off your life by putting your brain to work. Your life will improve as you think of every next step God is leading you to and plan towards it. But if you promote laziness, it’ll dim your innovative mindset and make things dull, which is not good.

Work as unto the Lord

Another cause of laziness in several people’s lives is how they view work. Once you recognise it as a God-given gift and not some toxic activity you do to earn a living, it’ll change your approach towards it. As Colossians 3:23 counsels, work as unto the Lord because His reward will always be better than that of a man.

You are a blessing.
