[19] “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.” – Matthew 13:19 (NKJV)
Did you know that even though God’s Word is alive and active and sharper than a double-edged sword (see Hebrews 4:12), it can be stolen from the hearts of God’s people? The devil is the one who does it. But he doesn’t do it by touching the Word. No! He just manoeuvres to distract people from hearing and understanding the Word when it’s being preached.
Today, it is sad that many people, instead of concentrating on the pastor’s preaching during church service, turn to social media platforms to chat and update statuses. Some people also turn to talking with friends and family during the church service. So, even though they go to church, they leave with no Word to remember and use for their lives. What a tragedy!
It is not surprising that many Christians’ lives are not progressing as fast as compared to many people in the world. That should not be so. Why? Because God delights in the prosperity of His people (see Psalm 35:27). But things don’t just happen. Wishful thinking has not gotten anybody so far in life. It is the Word you need to use to get to that high feat God wants you to reach that is stuck as a dream in your mind.
Make provisions to avoid distractions during the reception of the Word, especially in church. If it’s your phone, you have to put it on silent mode, sit closer to the podium, or sit by strangers so you won’t be involved in a conversation. Do it. It will help you. Don’t allow the devil to steal God’s Word in your heart through these minor distractions.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for everything You do for me. Help me to concentrate on You whenever I receive Your Word, either through personal study or during church service. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
