[3] “He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.” – Proverbs 13:3 (NKJV)
Although easy to speak, words can be very harmful to the souls of many people. In fact, some people experience a dampening in their spirits because of the words other people speak to them, either via a call, in-person or even through an internet post or comment. Because God knows the impact of words on human life, He inspired wise King Solomon to write that anybody who guards his mouth preserves his life. Think about this.
Many people wouldn’t have lost genuine friendships if they had been careful about the words they spoke to them or said to others behind their backs. Some people, oblivious of how hurtful they speak, ignore the need to check their mouths by being slow to speak. The scripture tells us in James 1:19 that we must be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. So, patience is extremely needed to keep your mouth in check.
Do you want to preserve your life? Guard your lips. Are you ever thinking of ways to preserve your marriage from failure or your job from sparking controversies among team members? Pay attention to what you say, including the jokes you say unintentionally. Your life will be guarded from destruction.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help guard my lips from gushing out destructive words lest I lose meaningful relationships with the people you’ve given me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
