[5] “You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:5 (NIV)
Have you ever asked yourself why thieves usually steal at night and not in the day? Check the crime statistics. Many criminal activities happen at night and rarely during the day. But why? Because the sun makes visibility very easy during the day. As such, thieves are more likely to get caught when they indulge in daylight robbery than at nighttime. Now, with this understanding in perspective, let’s delve deeper into what it means when the Bible says you are a child of the light.
God is light, and in Him, there is no darkness (see 1 John 1:5). So “the light,” being referred to in the devotional anchor text – 1 Thessalonians 5:5, refers to God, not your house light bulb, the sun or any light you can think of. You are God’s child, so you are a child of the light. And since there is no darkness in God, walking in God’s light means living a holy life devoid of any trace of evil, even in the heart.
People who do wicked things in darkness are afraid when someone turns on the light they are hiding in. So, in the same way, it is only dangerous to you when you live an ungodly life. You’ll expose yourself to God’s wrath, which is terrible to fall into the Almighty’s hands, the Bible says (see Hebrews 10:31). Remember that you are a carrier of the message of reconciliation in God. Do not conform to the patterns of the world, but be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me love You deeply as I live to fulfil all You have said concerning my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
