[15] “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.” – 1 John 2:15 (NIV)
The word “world” has been used several times in the Bible. Sometimes, it’s translated as the physical earth. But in most cases, it’s interpreted as the dark influences of this Earth governed by the devil. That’s why 2 Corinthians 4:4 says the devil is the god of this world and that he operates in people’s lives by blinding them from beholding the beauty of the gospel.
Unfortunately, the devil can have this influence on some believers, especially the immature or baby Christians. Yes, I am aware that the devil doesn’t have the authority to possess the heart of any believer. However, manipulating one’s life so that the believer won’t live in God’s ways is possible. Remember that Ephesians 4:27 urges us not to give the devil a foothold. If you know this, then you must place a careful watch over your life because living in purity is intentional work.
In 1 John 2:15, the Bible says that you should not love the world or anything in the world. That means you must live so satisfied in God that you’ll have the conviction to reject anything that entices you to pursue worldly gain. And since the Bible commands believers to live like this, it means there is grace to live it out in complete manifestation.
Instead of focusing on your human efforts not to love the world, why don’t you pursue a deeper intimacy with Jesus so you can have access to the grace to live unto Him in a crooked world? God is ever willing to help you to live in purity because He knows it’s an integral part of your life to fulfil your divine mandate. Grace be with you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace to live above the pleasures of this world. Help me to keep my gaze on You no matter where I go. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
