Have you supervised or watched a construction project emerge before? If not, you may have seen one. In all of them, you’ll realise that the workers initially spend time building the foundation before erecting the whole project. Why do they do that? Because once the foundation is not laboured adequately, the building is subject to damage, no matter how magnificent it becomes in people’s eyes.
Today, being the first day of the year (well, because this article is released on the 1st January 2026, while we know that several people may read this later), I want to inspire you to accelerate after building the foundation in anything you are doing, be it a business, house, corporation, marriage or ministry you are building. However, this article may be for people who have put in the labour in their work for a considerable amount of time. In contrast, for those beginning, it will serve as inspiration for the time ahead (you can always save this article to read later).
Labouring upon the foundation
It takes time for a tree the become well-rooted before the shoot starts growing tall. Every tall and strong tree that has lasted for a long time has a deeper tap root in the ground. In the same way, when you are building on something, especially a company, you need to ensure the foundation, comprising the organisational structure, administration, systems and policies, is well laid out.
Many founders who struggle to handle company issues are victims of not paying attention to these matters, which later backfire, costing them hours of productivity and sometimes financial losses. I get it that you cannot figure everything out right from day one. But as you grow in what you do, there are times when you need to evaluate what is going on so you can correct your mistakes and make things better. Who knew your key to enjoying the year would start like this?
Allow God to do new things in your life.
Many of us want to see progress in whatever we are doing. But sometimes, we don’t prepare to embrace these new changes. For instance, many people are looking for jobs. But some, after getting their desired jobs, fail to adapt their lives to accommodate them quickly. I’ve seen people get laid off within weeks of being hired because they weren’t prepared to embrace their jobs. This year, don’t let that be your story. You need always to be prepared to let God do new things in your life, even when you don’t expect it.
Have faith for more.
What God has planned to do in your life is far bigger than what you have ever seen. So, don’t settle for less just because you may be living comfortably with the level you have reached now. Anytime you feel like settling into your comfort zone, go to the Lord in prayer to give you more vision to fuel you. Keep pressing on. The Lord is with you.
