“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” — Proverbs 13:20 NIV
There are several ways to obtain divine wisdom according to the scriptures. Two of them are making prayer requests unto God for wisdom (James 1:5) and spiritual impartation [the laying on of hands — (Deuteronomy 34:9)]. But today, I want to share with you another way, and that is by walking with wise people.
According to Proverbs 13:20, if you walk with wise people, you’ll also become wise. It’s important to note that the scripture doesn’t say “you’ll be as wise as them.” Now this implies your walk with wise people makes you become an automatic benefactor of their wisdom. That’s how powerful a wise friendship can affect the life of anybody, even a foolish person.
Of a truth, there’s no meaningful friendship without influence. And as communication with time together increases, some attitudes and behaviours will overflow from one person to another.
I once heard Pastor Vlad Savchuk saying, “your friends are a photograph of your future.” If you want a better life in the future, you don’t only have to get connected to God; you must also walk with wise people, even in your church.
There are levels of friendship. So it’s not bad having lots of friends. However, for those you allow in your circle (the very close friends), carefully analyse their lives and choose the wise and godly people because, by your fellowship with them, you’ll know God better and also become divinely wise.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh Jesus, give me a discerning eye to wisely choose friends who’ll stir me up to live wisely unto you in this crooked generation.
