Victory Rests with the Lord

[31] “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD.” – Proverbs 21:31 (NIV)

How does it feel to prepare for an exam, interview or maybe an important presentation, but you get there, and things turn out bad? Very disappointing. Right? But that happens to many people in the world today. There is a difference between preparing for something and actually doing that thing. Solomon knew this. That’s why he said in Proverbs 21:31, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD.”

In those days, kings used to go to war with several cities. There were no guns or any sophisticated weapons. Most of them used spears, arrows, swords and shields for the war. And there were some horsemen on the battlefield too. So, I guess Solomon wrote that proverb with his war experience in mind. Today, all these are no longer in existence. But the principle remains.

You can do whatever you can to prepare for something, especially things involving an audience gathering to hear you speak. But on that day, it is the Lord who will help you. Victory rests with the Lord, although your preparation time is essential. Because of this, it is not right to say, “There is no God.” Those people who say that fail to recognise how God has been merciful to them, even though they may not know Him. Don’t let that be your story!
