The Force Behind Concrete Decisions — Vision

“So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.” — Genesis 39:10 NKJV

There’s only one thing that can help you to make concrete decisions and enforce them. It’s called vision. As long as you know where God is taking you in the future, you’ll figure out where you’re not going so skillfully. You’ll easily be able to distinguish between the voice of God and the suggestions of people, as good as they may be.

Joseph had a vision of where God was taking him in future. And that vision gave him a purpose for living. It helped him to stay faithful to God in the whole country of Egypt, full of idols — where there were no churches, fellow believers to hang out with or even a public place of prayer. His vision supported him to also focus on God even when his brothers sold him to Egypt.

One time, Potiphar’s wife took notice of Joseph. He had been promoted in the house, so much so that when his master wasn’t around, he was in charge of everything except his wife.

This woman wanted Joseph to sleep with her, and as to why she desired that, it’s not written directly in the scriptures. However, to me, I see her as a person the devil used to attempt Joseph to sway from his vision. Why? Because suppose Joseph had committed sexual immorality with her,

  1. his whole family line in Egypt would have become corrupted.
  2. there’d be no way he could have become a prime minister because of that sin.
  3. Thirdly, having sex with that woman would have brought filthiness in the genes of the holy family of Abraham, and that would have also threatened the genuity of the Seed of David – Jesus.

So you see, it wasn’t only about her satisfying her sexual desires but also committing a sin that would have had generational effects.

The greatest discovery any human being can ever have is his purpose.

I see that the greatest discovery any human being can ever have is his purpose. And if God is each person’s source, then nobody can know his purpose without Jesus. When purpose is known and kept strong, the grace to stand firm on your godly decisions comes naturally to you. That is one big secret of leaders in Christ. They guard the habits that sustain their success no matter what happens.

When purpose is known and kept strong, the grace to stand firm on your godly decisions comes naturally to you.

Look at what Joseph did. He deliberately decided not to commit sexual immorality with the woman or even get close to her (Genesis 39:10). He guarded his godly integrity, even when it meant losing his job. However, one surprising thing I never saw Joseph do was report the woman’s attitude to her husband. I asked myself why didn’t he do it.

Joseph was ready to die for his vision. His dreams kept ringing in his mind that he didn’t need to report it to his master. And secondly, he knew that place wasn’t his final destination. It was the throne, even though Joseph never knew how God would make it happen.

Let me tell you something. You’re here on purpose for a purpose. That vision should bring you so much discipline, keep your thoughts very active on what’s right and your time so adequately used that you’ll have none left for iniquities. There are some suggestions from people you must reject easily upon hearing them. But for others, you must deny with an unwavering mind. Allow nobody to use you to satisfy selfish pleasures. Christ is with you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in Jesus’ mighty name, I pray that You’ll guard my life with vision. Train me how to remain strong in fulfilment of my life assignment, no matter what happens in my life. Amen!
