So the king said to him, “How many times shall I make you swear that you tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?” - 1 Kings 22:16 NKJV
On many occasions, the truth hurts instead of edifying people because it exposes evil actions. Many preachers face media attacks when they speak the truth because people want something pleasant to hear. It’s interesting to see people hating the very word of truth from the Bible that blesses lives.
Micaiah was a prophet who always spent time in God’s presence in an inner room. He knew what goes on in heaven because he could discern it. As a result of this, his prophecies weren’t always in favour of King Ahab. It wasn’t because Micaiah was an awful prophet; he just spoke the truth.
One time Ahab decided to go to war with Ramoth in Gilead. When he called all the prophets (except Micaiah) to seek God’s counsel, they prophesied that he should go to the war because he’d win. Micaiah got summoned later to speak. Firstly, he confirmed what the others said (which I’m sure was due to the king’s messenger’s luring). However, after receiving a strong warning from the king, to tell the truth, he explained a vision that meant Ahab would die if he went to the war.
Listening too much to other people’s opinions can influence you to replace telling the truth with what they want to hear. It happened to an accurate prophet like Micaiah. Be empowered to tell the truth even if your life is under threat. To live is for Christ, and to die is gain unto to the Lord (Philippians 1:21). Be not afraid!
You’re a blessing.
