Remember the Cost of Betrayal

[14] “Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot —went to the chief priests [15] and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. [16] From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.” – Matthew 26:14-16 (NIV)

Betrayal is one thing many people serving in institutions think about, and it even increases when work conditions are bad. I have worked in several institutions, including ministry, and I have seen diverse kinds of people say bad things about the places where they work. Sometimes, these people end up resigning or doing something evil that costs their lives.

Judas Iscariot was one of the perpetrators of betrayal in the Bible. Because he was close to Jesus, he saw many things he didn’t like about His master’s ministry. One was how they didn’t have a stable place to sleep because they were moving from place to place. He also saw how bad the monitoring system is, especially concerning finances. So, do you know what he did? He was stealing some of the money (see John 12:6) without being caught. I believe Jesus knows everything, so He knew what Judas was doing. But He didn’t stop him because He knew that guy’s betrayal is vital to fulfil Biblical prophecies.

Today, things are quite different. If you steal from a company’s coffers and get caught, you will be fired. But many people do these things and employ strong mechanisms to escape it. Let me tell you something. Judas thought betraying Jesus for the sake of earning some money wouldn’t have an effect on his life. Wrong? He paid for it at the end with his life.

The devil is an expert in blinding you from the cost of betrayal when you attempt to do evil things against someone you serve, whether in ministry or at the workplace. He has a way of making you desire to steal money without telling you that you can get imprisoned. Be smarter than him, and when you feel overwhelmed with bad things happening at any place you are, go back to God and ask Him clarifying questions.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy in my life. Help me become a faithful servant in Your house and wherever I am. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
