“You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” — James 4:2 NLT
Everyone has needs in one’s life that ought to be met. For children, it’s primarily clothing, shelter, parental protection and food. For a godly wife, it’s usually affection, and for a godly husband, it’s usually peace.
However, there are specific needs that vary from person to person. And because of this uniqueness, there are some needs only God can satisfy.
But sometimes, we look to people to satisfy these kinds of needs. And when we experience multiple disappointments, we tend to stop trusting people, creating fights and conflicts amongst people, all because of selfishness.
According to Apostle James in James 4:2, some believers used to fight amongst themselves and experience contentions in their minds because they looked unto people to meet needs that God can only satisfy. Does this verse speak about your life?
Child of God, are you looking unto others, including believers, to meet needs only God can provide? Spouse, are you too dependent on your partner to feel loved? It shouldn’t be the case. Have you forgotten God loves you?
People can’t give what they don’t have. When you raise the bar of expectation on people to meet some needs, you might end up disappointed when they’re not able to give as much as you’re asking.
Learn to be dependent on God as you also trust Him to grant you favour before people to help and support you. Remember that it is God that touches people’s hearts to give, and not really by their own will. So don’t trivialise your relationship with God just because there are others you depend upon to give whatever you want, especially as a child or young adult depending on your parents.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I know that there are some needs only You can satisfy. Any wrong pillar in my life that I’ve laid dependency on, I renounce it in the name of Jesus. Help me to look upon you for my needs and touch people’s hearts to help me fulfil my purpose. Amen.
