“When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” — Matthew 2:10 - 11 NKJV
The wise men (Magi) were one of the few people who physically saw Jesus when He was born. I say this because, from my personal Bible study, the Magi are different from the shepherds. The shepherds also saw Jesus and spread the news about him (Luke 2:15-17). They never went to Mary and Joseph with gifts but to see Jesus. However, for the wise men, they went with three gifts – gold, frankincense and myrrh. So some went with nothing, but others offered their gifts.
You see, God isn’t after our money or possessions. He’s after our hearts. When the wise men pulled resources together to give, they had only three packages. It doesn’t mean they were three in number. But God kept communicating to them not to visit Herod upon their return to their country. However, for the shepherds, nothing was written about them after they spread the news concerning Jesus’ birth.
When you offer your gifts in godly worship, you open the way for God to fill your barns with His provision (Proverbs 3:9-10). That barn isn’t primarily about your bank account or mobile money wallet. It’s about all aspects of your life, both vision-wise and provision-wise.
For example, if God tells you to do one little thing, and you obey it, you’ve been faithful to what’s little. Hence, He’ll credit you with higher tasks; so that you’ll become more faithful (Luke 16:10). This same principle applies to how you must handle finances and time. For the money, He can bless you with plenty, but for time, He teaches how to maximise it because you’ll always have twenty-four hours each day.
God is just. He doesn’t compromise His principles because of anybody. He’s true to His Word no matter the behaviour of people. So just as nobody told the Magi to give little Jesus, I tell you to support your pastor without him asking for offerings from you. I don’t say this to solicit support for ministers. Instead, I see this to be for your own good. Giving is not a loss. It’s the wisdom behind multiplication.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, enlighten me to sow where I want to grow, even without hearing directly from you. Help me discern what to do when I can’t hear Your voice. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
