“[5] It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” — 1 Corinthians 13:5 NIV
One day, a frustrated friend asked me, “God never said we should forget people’s sins. Is that so?” That day, I believed he asked because he found it hard to forget what other people had done to him. Oh, how sad!
In my inner man, my attention was drawn to Colossians 3:13. And when I read it, there’s nothing like “forget your neighbour’s sins.” It says God won’t remember our sins, not us forgetting our offender’s faults. But it’s dangerous to use one scripture to form a doctrine. So I decided to pray for more clarity on my friend’s question.
Later, a scripture dropped. That is 1 Corinthians 13:5. And, in there, it’s written that love keeps no record of wrongs. So from that, we’re supposed to forgive one another and forget the offences.
If you have a problem forgetting or forgiving someone who did something evil to you, check your love for Him. If it’s truly of God, then it’s not perfected in you yet. As you grow in God’s love, you should be able to forget people’s faults. Proverbs 10:12 NIV says,
“Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.”
If you love like Jesus, you’ll not keep a record of people’s evil deeds they did to you in your mind. God loves you too much to make your mind be affected by negative things. Live unto God; love like Jesus and keep fulfilling your divine mandate. The Lord is with you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for assuring me that Your love keeps no record of wrongs. I pray in the name of Jesus, that I receive divine strength to let go of anything painful in my heart. Help me live in peace. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
