Keep Watch on Your Divine Mandate

[35] “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.” – Mark 13:35 (NIV)

When I graduated freshly from the university and entered into the corporate world of work, there was something I realised many workers do. They didn’t like working and only pretended to work anytime they heard the boss coming around. That made me ask myself, “Is this what people do every working day and expect to be paid?” It’s such a tragedy because I have never had that training since our ministry was launched way back in 2018.

Hear this! God didn’t give you that job or divine mandate to be lazy, not even one day in your life. Never forget this. To keep us on our toes when it comes to work, Jesus spoke proverbially in Mark 13:35. He said that we should keep watch because we don’t know when God, who’s the owner of the house (everything in the world, including your life and mandate) is coming.

So, yes, there is a place for rest. But God doesn’t want to come to see you lazy. Keep watch on your divine mandate because you will give an account of your work before the Lord upon His second coming. Rest when you are tired, but don’t convert your rest period into prolonged procrastination.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to work diligently in whatever I am doing that brings glory and honour to You as well as making me earn a living. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
