By[12] “On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” – Matthew 9:12 (NIV)
Many people go to hospitals every day. Usually, the healthy people in hospitals are those who work there, those who accompany their sick relatives there, and probably those who come for checkups. So what Jesus said is true: it is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick.
In God’s system, this law is applicable in the sense that it isn’t the spiritually healthy (those born again) who need to receive Jesus as Lord and personal Saviour but the sinners. A sinner, in God’s Word, is someone who is not born again, not really someone who hasn’t been in church. In fact, there are many people in churches today who are not even born again. Mercy!
When Jesus came, He received many accusations against Him for dining with sinners. In those days, sinners were people who were considered unrighteous and usually practised dubious things openly to the extent that people tagged them with names. One class of such people was tax collectors, just as politicians had been tagged as corrupt these days.
Usually, people think those tagged as evil don’t need the message of salvation. But I tell you, they do. If that politician doesn’t receive Christ, won’t the devil manipulate his mind to govern the nation in evil ways, which will, in turn, affect us believers? Don’t be deceived, dear preacher. Evangelising to people, no matter their status in life is very important. The church must grow; for that to happen, we must hit the towns, streets, digital platforms, and other avenues to preach the gospel. People need Jesus, so if you have Him, share His Word with others also.
