“Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,” - Philippians 1:27 NKJV
An exemplary life is a life lived so well that other people can learn from it. While history gives and continues to give names of dead people who lived exemplary lives on earth, we Christians are entreated to live like Christ in a broken world through the manifestation of conduct worthy of the gospel of Christ we preach.
If that’s so, then the Bible wasn’t written for the sake of head-knowledge; but for practice. So James 1:22 (NKJV) says,
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Every doer of the Word of God will live an exemplary life. And according to today’s devotional anchor text (Philippians 1:27), our conduct must revere Christ whether our shepherd (pastor) is present or absent.
Don’t pretend to behave well when you see someone in your church or fellowship around. Live unto God with a pure heart, and obey the Word. And don’t focus on whether others are checking your life or not. You’ll see how God will use you to transform people around even without you talking. That is the power of Christ-centred influence. Be faithful to God, to men, and in handling money (Luke 16:10-12).
You’re a blessing.
