[129] “Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them.” – Psalms 119:129 (NIV)
Psalm 119 is unarguably the longest chapter in the Bible. It has 176 verses in it, and that’s wonderful. But because of its length, many people don’t read it thoroughly in a single sitting. Well, finishing such a chapter or any part of the Bible is good. But God is more interested in you making those faith-filled words you read in the Bible more effective in your life.
Back in those days, there wasn’t the New Testament. The Word of God was in the form of scrolls, which were usually read in the synagogue when the Israelites met to worship God. The scroll wasn’t in multiple prints like the Bible is today. It was usually one, the one in the temple. But somehow, the kings, like King David, had access to it almost every time the wanted it. David took advantage of that and read God’s laws so much that he saw how wonderful they were. That is why he wrote in Psalm 119:129 that God’s statutes are wonderful. How would he have come up with that review if he had not read it? Think about that!
Until you have taken personal Bible study seriously and delved deeper into the Bible, you’ll not know how awesome and spiritually satisfying it is to encounter revelations in it that will go a long way to change your life. Stop giving excuses for skipping the practice of personal Bible study. The world will not get any less busy. So, make time to be with God consistently.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to uphold Your Word in my life and encounter more revelations as I study it. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
