“Let my cry come before You, O Lord; Give me understanding according to Your word.” — Psalms 119:169 NKJV
David was indeed a man after God’s heart. Even though he had plenty of riches and everything he needed, he longed to understand God better each day. In Psalm 119:169, he told God to give him understanding according to His Word. What in the world does that mean? It means with everything in this life, David sought to get the spiritual insight behind it. It applies to us too. Let me give you an example.
When a married woman gets pregnant, she goes through pregnancy season to carry and nurture the baby in her womb for nine months until she gives birth. That’s a natural occurrence. But we can derive a spiritual insight from it. Now to me, it is a way God used to teach me that He hides whoever He calls to do mighty exploits for His kingdom for a season before showing him forth, just as that baby remains physically unseen by even the mother until after birth.
Look around you. There are probably some things going on in your life that God is using to teach you something specific about scripture. It may be afflictions to refine your character, job delays to teach you how to trust God for His provision, or a season of abandonment to give you extreme privacy to discover your purpose in Christ. No season is a waste before God. However, it depends on your perspective of sight. If you don’t pray and connect to God in order to understand the mysteries behind your current season, it’ll pass, and you’ll not learn a thing.
Several things happened to Jesus. Unfortunate circumstances happened to David too. Problems are everywhere, some crying for a visionary man to step up and commit to solving them. Can you see that God is using that unexpected relationship breakup to teach you how to be emotionally mature? What about job delay? Connect to the divine, fellowship with His Word, and you’ll think differently from the masses.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I come before You today, not for any material request, but to ask that You give me understanding according to Your Word. Refine my motives and perspective for envisioning the happenings around my life. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
