[24] “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. [25] And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’” – Matthew 25:24-25 (NKJV)
One time, Jesus was talking about the kingdom of God using parables. There was also a parable about the talents captured in Matthew 25:14-30. The master (God) gave talents to three different servants, each according to their own capacity, so they could use them to work while he was away. The first two servants used what was given to them, gaining a hundred percent profit each from what they were given. But the last one didn’t. What he said was captured in Matthew 25:24-25, and I would like to talk about that in today’s verse.
The servant said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ Look at that. He viewed the master as a hard man reaping from where he hadn’t sown and chose not to work because of that fear. The master confirmed in Matthew 25:26 that he was a hard man and always reaped from where he hadn’t sown. But he disbanded the servant’s claim of fear and even took away the talents he gave him.
See that! It is good to understand God’s way of doing things. But the moment you let fear cloud your mind on what you are supposed to do with your gift, it’ll affect your diligence at work. The master in the parable represents God, and the servants represent His people. He has given you spiritual gifts to harness and impact your generation with it. Don’t have a wrong view of God’s character by letting fear prevent you from being transactional with what He has told you to do.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace. Help me to always think of You for good no matter what I am doing. Equip me to work diligently with what You have given me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
