[38] Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. [39] “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” – John 11:38-39 (NIV)
Jesus was busily ministering to others when He got the report that Lazarus was sick and that He had to come to heal him (see John 11:1-3). But Jesus replied that his sickness was not unto death. Four days later, he came over to Judea. But at that time, Lazarus was dead. Jesus, wanting others to believe that He was the sent of God, decided to raise Lazarus from the dead.
Upon coming to the tomb, Jesus ordered people to take away the stone. However, just after Jesus had given that command, Martha, Lazarus’ brother, told him that since he was buried 4 days ago, opening the tomb would burst bad odour over the entire vicinity. Here’s the problem. Martha wanted her brother to come back alive, but she resisted what Jesus wanted to do to experience her miracle. That is what happens when you want something from God but haven’t positioned yourself to get that thing.
Dear one, when you pray to God for something, prepare to receive what you have prayed for. Don’t give an excuse for seeing your miracle. Is it marriage or a godly relationship? Dress modestly and live conscious of God’s promise to provide a partner for you. Is it a job? Don’t sit at home doing nothing. No! Get the clothes for the workplace right. Get the equipment you need to function well at the job you are praying for. Don’t sit there idle and think everything will work out right. No! Position yourself, mentally, spiritually and physically, for your miracle.
After Jesus raised Lazarus from death, nobody cared whether there was a bad smell emitting from the tomb or not. Instead, everybody was happy about the miracle, and some even believed in Jesus as the Messiah just because of that miracle. Analyse your faith towards anything you are praying for.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me develop a receiving mindset born out of faith whenever I request something from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
