[9] “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.” – Romans 12:9 (NKJV)
What is hypocrisy? It’s the insincerity of pretending to have qualities or beliefs you do not really have. In other words, it’s saying one thing you don’t stand for, yet doing the very things you said to others. Most of the Pharisees that lived during Jesus’ times were hypocrites. They preached virtues but practised vices, especially in secret. Does God want us to emulate that lifestyle? Of course not!
That’s why scripture warns that as a believer, you should let God’s love within you be without hypocrisy. How? By clinging to what is good and hating what is evil. That further means you must not be hypocritical in expressing God’s love to people. Yes, the love of God, indeed, has no loopholes. As such, expressing it to others is unconditional. But it hates sin.
Let me tell you! God’s love does not know compromise against scriptural standards. No! Right is right, and wrong is wrong; there is no middle ground between them. Dear friend, do not take your leniency in tolerating people’s sins and claim it is love. No! Correct what is wrong by the empowerment of the Spirit, even if it means confronting sin on the pulpit as a preacher. The devil is on an agenda to make believers forget to live who God has created them to their fullest potential by making them flirt with sin without correction. Stand firm for the gospel. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Word in my life. Help me discern what is good and evil according to the standards of Your Word so I can cling to what is good. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
