“Do everything in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14 NIV
What is your primary motive for everything you do? Is it God’s love, which gives without expecting back, selfishness, or other things? You know yourself best. So you can best answer this question.
In the concluding part of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthian church, he writes that they should do everything in love. They were carnal believers (1 Corinthians 3:1) and involved in all kinds of sin, especially sexual immorality. But Paul gives them a vote of confidence – that through Christ in them, they should do everything in love. This same instruction also goes to us.
You might be a babe in Christ or a mature Christian. Whichever level you’ve gotten to in your spiritual growth in Christ, do everything in love. In other words, have God’s heart at the centre of whatever you’re doing, not yourself, any man or the devil. For God is love (1 John 4:8).
Refine your motives for praying, work, education, ministry, business, and everything else you do in your life. Check the primary thing that inspires you for what you’re doing. Is it simply to get money for yourself or to get money to support yourself, your family and the ministry? God weighs our motives (Proverbs 16:2 NIV) for whatever we’re doing, and He’ll judge them too. You can deceive man by hiding your intentions, but not God. Have a clean mindset.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray that You’ll inspire me to do everything in love and not for any selfish reasons. Help me to understand Your love better, so I can express it better to others too. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
