[1] “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” – Romans 12:1 (NKJV)
Have you ever thought of why God gave you a body aside from giving you a spirit and a soul? Maybe not. But there is, at least, one reason why God gave you whatever you have today – be it a material or spiritual gift. None of them is useless. But God, not restricting any man from using his free will, placed your decision in your hands. Today, many people use their free will for harmful things instead of using it to serve God. It saddens me when I see people smoke, drink alcohol and engage in promiscuity. Such people are abusing what God has given them, and that has effects on their lives.
In his book “The Burden of Freedom,” Dr Myles Munroe once said, “Irresponsibility is freedom’s greatest enemy.” When you are not responsible for using what God has given you well, you’ll misuse it. That explains why several people, although God’s free will in their lives is still theirs, are still in bondage because the devil influences them to use their lives to do evil things.
Now, speaking to you if you are born again. Dear child of God, commit your body to serve the Lord. In Romans 12:1, Paul beseeched the believers in Rome to do the same thing, although they were experiencing life-threatening persecution because of their faith. Let me tell you that you will not get it easy once you commit your life to Jesus. There will be trying times. But hold on to the faith. For your kingdom service, although despised by men, is never in vain before God. Be encouraged.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to serve you diligently with the body You have given me. Help me to stand firm in the face of fierce persecution for the sake of Your work. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
