“Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.” — Genesis 12:1 NKJV
When God wants to impact your life so mightily, He works on changing two main things in your life:
- Your spiritual environment [by being born-again – (Colossians 1:13)] and
- Your physical environment.
In many cases, the former precedes the latter. Because when you get born again, it’s almost always possible that the people surrounding your life won’t leave immediately, although it’s not always the case.
When God called Abraham, He wanted him to leave his country, family, and father’s house to a secluded land He (God) had chosen. But someone could have asked, “why the sudden change of environment?” Well, God knows that if He doesn’t separate Abraham unto himself, that idolatrous environment created in his family will affect him.
When you get born again, it takes time to mature. Jesus knows there are some things in your life you ought to lay aside, but He doesn’t stress them on you. That is because as you mature, you’ll know that there are some people you can’t keep in your life any longer, and similarly, some acts you’ll stop practising.
Friend, you’re not on the same path as the unbeliever. So no matter what you do, there’ll be a point you’ll reach in your walk with God that the real friends in your life would be filtered out. Don’t be afraid when God sparks a change of environment in your life to help you mature. It’s for your good.
A seed grows when placed in good soil with all germination requirements available. In the same way, God’s way of maturing you is to plant you in the brethren; because in belonging to that family, you’ll have access to what you need to grow spiritually. Fellowship with them. Flow with them because they’re on the same race of faith you’re on, which is Jesus, the author, and finisher of our faith in Christ (Hebrews 12:1-2).
You’re a blessing.
