Be Kind And Compassionate To One Another

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” — Ephesians 4:32 NIV

One beautiful characteristic of love is that it’s kind. But today, we see in Ephesians 4:32 that we must not only show kindness to one another but also be compassionate to people. Note that the Bible doesn’t say, “Be kind and compassionate to each other.” It says “… one another.”

“Each other” refers to two people, but “one another” connotes more than two people. Hence, the compassionate and kind expression of love in Christ isn’t limited to couples.

Are you compassionate to people? When a person is in need, and you have what it takes to help that fellow, do you do it deliberately or turn it over? If Paul starts Ephesians 4:32 with the word “Be,” it means showing kindness and compassion as Christians must be a deliberate thing. So you don’t need your shepherd to tell you to give before you give. Once you see principles in scripture, go ahead and obey them. It’ll do you more good than you ever think.

Make the love of Christ we preach tangible in your life, not theoretical in your mouth. Many will turn unto God’s righteousness if we love one another (John 13:35) as children of God.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Oh God, help me to be kind and compassionate to other people in my life, whether in the faith or not. Help me to develop a tender heart toward the needy in order to get opportunities to do good. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
