[24] “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV)
I loved watching athletics when I was a little boy, although nowadays, it’s even becoming more difficult for me to stay by the television for long. Guess what? I was fascinated by how the 100-metre sprinters were so focused when they were about to run. Why? Because everyone aimed at not just finishing the race but also getting a medal. They ran in such a way to get the price. Wow!
Now, athletics wasn’t as advanced as it is today, especially during the days when Paul wrote this scripture. However, Paul understood how that system works and knew it was applicable to Christianity. So hear me, dear believer. As soon as you are saved, God sets you on a race of faith in Christ. That is why Hebrews 12:2 says Jesus is the author and finisher of your faith. So, because of that, you must be determined to finish your course strong in the Lord. Maybe let me break it down.
There is a higher calling in Christ for every believer, including you. But you must pay the price before you can reach it. One way of not draining spiritual energy as you walk by faith is that you will keep your eyes on the promises of God in your life. As long as that aim is there, no matter how slow you run, God will guide you there. Don’t fret. Keep yourself strong in the Lord!
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for all that You do for me. In Jesus’ name, help me to be determined to finish my course in the Lord strong. Amen!
