Ask, And It Will Be Given To You

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7 NKJV

Many of us like praying what I call “general prayers.” For example, when a prayer leader says, “lift your voice in the language of the Spirit,” we speak in tongues. That isn’t wrong because it helps us to fellowship with the Holy Spirit. However, there are different dimensions of prayer in the scriptures. That means prayer isn’t all about fellowshipping with God. There are other reasons to pray too.

In Matthew 7:7, Jesus teaches that you can place a prayer request to God for something. He says, “Ask, and it will be given to you…”. So the one who asks will receive what He asked God for. It may be slow or not immediate, but it will come. The two hindrances to this kind of prayer are unforgiveness (Mark 11:25) and wrong motives (James 4:3). Once these aren’t faulty in your life, you’ll receive what you asked God for in faith.

Pray specific prayers too. If it’s “A” you’re asking God for, say it as you pray. God already knows your needs. But Jesus still tells us to ask Him. He’s not giving us the privilege to live on assumptions. Heaven responds to what you pray for, not what you say nothing about. Make specific prayers.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Oh God, thank you for teaching me that You respond to our prayer requests. As I come before you today, expel unforgiveness and wrong motives for all my requests in my heart. And give me the faith to command results unto Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
