“[18] For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: [19] whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.” — Philippians 3:18 - 19 NKJV
Who is an enemy to the cross of Christ? It’s someone who keeps living contrary to the reason why Jesus died on the cross: to purge the sins of humanity. There are people still living very awkward lives, full of sin, guilt, backbiting, and all other works of the fleshly sin nature.
According to Philippians 3:18, Paul said, “…For many walk… that they are enemies to the cross of Christ:”. He didn’t start by saying, “for many of you…”. That means every unbeliever is living as an enemy to the cross of Christ. Secondly, any Christian who intentionally misapplies grace by allowing sin to reign in his mortal body is also living as an enemy to the cross of Christ.
Friend, in Christ, there is liberty. However, that liberty is not for us to give in to fleshly desires. But through love, we’d serve one another (Galatians 5:13-14).
As we continue to preach to unbelievers that they should come to Jesus and be saved, we must also guard ourselves as Christians from indulging in fleshly acts by walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
It cost God Jesus to die and take away the sin of the world. Understand grace properly, and don’t misapply it to your life. You were created in Christ unto good works (Ephesians 2:10). Live as such!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that I’ll submit to the direction and leadership of Your Holy Spirit in me as your child. Teach me how to forego my vain plans in order to follow You wholeheartedly without worrying about life. Amen!
