A Wicked and Adulterous Generation Looks for a Sign

[4] “A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.” – Matthew 16:4 (NIV)

The Jews loved to see signs and wonders, unlike the Greeks, who also loved knowledge (see 1 Corinthians 1:22). Because of that, they (the Jews) eventually started testing Jesus to do a sign to prove a point. That was when He told them that “a wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” But what was the sign of Jonah? It was a sign that meant that Jesus would die and be in the womb of hell for three days and then come back, which is what exactly happened.

As a minister of God, you should not live by the demands of men. Otherwise, you will end up living to fulfil people’s demands rather than living to please God. Sometimes, what people want you to do for them isn’t bad. They could be helpful. However, there are many instances where people’s demands would be contrary to the will of God for your life. So, be careful.

After Jesus said those things, He didn’t stay there to try and convince them. No! He left them and went away. I want you to note something here. Don’t waste your time trying to convince people who are bent on misunderstanding you. It is of no need. Dear believer, you live in a perverse world. So, live wisely, not haphazardly, lest the evil things in the world drive you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Thank You, Father, for guarding my life. Help me to live to please You, no matter how costly it is or will ever be. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
