[24] Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. [25] He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” – John 12:24-25 (NKJV)
John 12:24 is one of the foundational scriptures whenever the word “sacrifice” in a believer’s life comes into play. Nobody has ever lived a selfish life, and has become a blessing to generations. It has never happened and will never be. Why? Because even agriculture proves that until you sow a seed in the ground, don’t think of multiple harvests.
Jesus said that unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But upon its death, it produces much grain upon harvest. That means sowing is a form of investment that yields compound returns. Think about this! Nobody has ever become successfully wealthy without investing wisely. So, sacrificing your life is a way to become a blessing to generations in Christ. If you decide to live a personal life full of self-ambition and what you can have and keep for yourself, you can make it, but everything you get won’t benefit others.
God doesn’t want you to live a selfish life. In fact, the Bible says that love isn’t self-seeking (see 1 Corinthians 13:5). He wants you to command enormous impact with whatever you are doing as long as it has no trace of evil in it. But that will require you to step out of the me-thinking mentality to the others-thinking mentality. Imagine if Jesus hadn’t died for us; where would we have been to secure salvation? Selfishness won’t take you far; don’t subscribe to it.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to sacrifice well in order to be a blessing to generations as I live to fulfil Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
