The Body Is More Than Clothes

What comes to mind when you think about the human body? Previously, people primarily focused on health and well-being in terms of their bodies. However, with the advancements in the world today, people also consider what to wear each day, especially women, who tend to dress more to please themselves and others. That isn’t a recent occurrence, as it has been there, even when Jesus came physically on earth. It’s just that modernisation has increased people’s quest to get more clothes. But Jesus said in Luke 12:23 that the body is more than clothes. So, if that is the case, then there are better ways for each person to perceive their own body. Right? Let’s delve deeper.

Do not worry about what you will wear.

We live in a world where many new things are manufactured daily. As a result, it satisfies many people’s cravings for something new while negatively impacting their sense of contentment. No matter what people have, they want more. And the sad reality of it is that most of them don’t even express any sense of gratitude to God for what they have so far. Isn’t that appalling? Well, it is. But you cannot change what people do. So what? You choose to be different. That is, to live grateful unto God and not worry about what you’ll wear, whether you have many or few clothes.

Plan your purchases and learn to be patient. However, let your primary focus be on God.

You may ask, “How can I live each day like that?” It’s simple. By being eternity conscious. When your mind is attuned to God, earthly things and possessions won’t be of much bother to your mind. It will help you plan your acquisition of those material possessions when you are able, but won’t make it your primary reason for toiling each day to get them. Some people think that there is no sense of order when a person chooses to live consciously of God and under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. But it’s not true. In fact, the Holy Spirit is the best teacher when it comes to planning for what’s ahead, especially for believers in Christ. Plan your purchases and learn to be patient. However, let your primary focus be on God.

Your body is God’s temple.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV) that,

“… do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?”

Kindly read that carefully. While people are using their bodies for all kinds of things (including immorality), for you as a Christian, your body is God’s temple. In other words, God is resident in you. If a whole God is in you, then you cannot afford to misuse your body. Right? Another one is that taking care of yourself is also taking care of God’s temple. And if you don’t have enough resources to do so, what do you do? You ask God!

Be mindful of your divine mandate.

God didn’t send the Holy Spirit to come and dwell in you for fun. In fact, He did it so that He can give you an empowered life that fulfils your purpose. And the more conscious you are of it, the higher your impact is on God’s kingdom as well as living in purity.

Why should you wear good clothes? I tell you that it isn’t to show off to people that you have a lot of clothing, but to be decent enough to continue living purposefully in the Lord. Eat well, fast, work and rest well. Use your body to glorify God in all things.

You are a blessing!
