[24] “Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face. “Which way did the spirit from the LORD go when he went from me to speak to you?” he asked. [25] Micaiah replied, “You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room.” – 1 Kings 22:24-25 (NIV)
Prophet Micaiah is one of the least known prophets in the Bible, who was deeply connected to God. Out of over four hundred prophets in Israel during Ahab’s regime, he was noted for speaking something against the popular opinion of others, including ministers. The king didn’t like him because he said he never prophesied anything good about him (see 1 Kings 22:8).
One time, Ahab, in collaboration with King Jehoshaphat, planned to go to war against the Arameans to reclaim a land (Ramoth Gilead) they said belonged to them. But as their custom was in those days, they never went to war without consulting what the Lord speaks through the prophets. So, they summoned over four hundred prophets in Israel, and they all prophesied that Israel would win the war. However, Micaiah was left out. So, knowing that Micaiah never said anything good about him, King Ahab asked him what the Lord had said. Micaiah initially said he would win the war. But Ahab insisted that Micaiah tell them the truth.
Eventually, it came out that if Ahab went to war, he would be killed. Micaiah even further explained what happened in heaven that made the prophets lie to Ahab (see 1 Kings 22:20-23). But Zedekiah, a leading prophet, came over to slap Micaiah in open space, asking, “Which way did the spirit from the LORD go when he went from me to speak to you?” But Micaiah answered, “You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room.” That word meant a lot.
If you are a servant of God and don’t know God in your secrecy, you’ll not be an accurate minister of the gospel. That goes especially to prophets. Sometimes, the reason why some of them get some prophecies wrong is not because they are fake; it’s just an exposure to a lack of deeper intimacy with the Father. Don’t let that be your case. Knowing God’s secrets is by sharing a closer fellowship with Him daily. So, go ahead and do this!
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for all You do for me. Help me to know You better all the days of my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
