A Happy Heart Makes the Face Cheerful

[13] “A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.” – Proverbs 15:13 (NIV)

Headache is often a common terminology because it’s an ailment that happens to several people every day. But heartache is rarely used because it isn’t usually described by people who face it. Many prefer to use the terms depression or heart pain rather than heartache. The Bible says a happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

Guess what? When your heart is happy, it’ll be visibly evident in your countenance. Many people start their day smiling because they’ve had some merry springing from their hearts. But those who put up sad countenances do so because of something wrong that’s bothering them. I can’t name all the causes of such things, but there are many. And since there are many problems in this world, more people are constantly battling with depression.

Dear one, there is a charge from scripture (Proverbs 4:23) to keep your heart with all diligence because out of it springs the issues of life. So, you must be intentional about what you allow into your heart through your eyes and ears (the windows of your life). It is better to disassociate with people and avoid going to places where you’ll see and hear bad things that can corrupt the good health condition of your heart in Christ. Take care of yourself because there is more God wants you to do in this life.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for giving me a heart of flesh when I became Your child. Help me to preserve a healthy heart condition despite all the atrocities in this life. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
