[13] “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.” – Luke 15:13 (NIV)
Several people are looking for money in this world. And because of that, many don’t care about using dubious means to get it. Instead of seeking wisdom, they do all kinds of research and register on fake online platforms to earn money. But most of these schemes have failed and continue to fail. Even those who end up getting the wealth end up squandering it because they don’t have the wisdom to manage it.
That is what happened to the prodigal son. He thought getting his share of his father’s inheritance was the key to his riches. Probably, he was influenced by his peers, who may have been engaged in haphazard living, to request such an inheritance from his father. This prodigal son eventually got his share of a massive inheritance from his dad. And the Bible says, “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.”
Just read that at a slower pace. He went far away from home, thinking he could build wealth and enjoy luxurious living without any restrictions from his father. But he was so wrong. He lacked the wisdom to manage his wealth. He couldn’t control his appetite, and that ended him up squandering his wealth in wild living. Mercy! Just when a famine broke out in the land he went to, he became so broke because he had to use his money to survive.
Dear one, money is not all about spending. There is nothing wrong with desiring to be wealthy, but there is everything wrong with lacking the wisdom to manage the wealth you are looking for. Go for wisdom, and even if you don’t have wealth right now, it’ll be easy to manage it when it comes.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me not to rush in my life just for the sake of pursuing wealth. Give me wisdom, knowledge and understanding so I can manage everything You give me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
