Ask for Wisdom Instead of Wealth

[11] Then God said to Solomon: “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king— [12] wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.” – 2 Chronicles 1:11-12 (NKJV)

Solomon was one of the greatest and probably the wealthiest kings that ever lived on the face of this Earth. But when he freshly succeeded his father, David, he made some enormous sacrifices that attracted God to come and ask him what he wanted. When I picture that scenario in my mind, I can tell that many people don’t get that privilege Solomon got – for God to descend from above, come straight to him and tell him to ask what he wanted. Hmm. Solomon could have asked for more wealth, wives, servants, land, or influence. But he chose to ask for wisdom. Why that? Maybe Solomon figured out that he needed more wisdom to rule God’s people, not money or servants.

God’s reply to this request was captured in 2 Chronicles 1:11-12, the anchor theme of the scripture. He said,

… “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king—wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.”

See that? God added riches, wealth and honour to the wisdom Solomon asked. No wonder he is the wealthiest man that has ever lived on the face of this Earth. Can I tell you something? You may have plenty of needs you present before God. But if it’s about money, ask for wisdom. Go for wisdom and knowledge, and God will add wealth to it. In fact, when you have wisdom and knowledge, it’ll be easier to manage wealth when it comes.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your grace. Increase Your wisdom and knowledge in my life so I can manage every blessing You pour into my life well. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
