[15] “Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry.” – Proverbs 19:15 (NIV)
Laziness is one of the most devastating attitudes a person can put up that can harm him so much. And do you know how it manifests itself? Through deep sleep. Have you seen someone who tried to wake up to do a task but felt too reluctant to get up from the bed? That is a clear sign of what laziness can do to a person.
Proverbs 19:15 tells us that laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless (idle person) goes hungry. That means a person is bound to go hungry when he subjects his life to laziness. Think about this. Do you think God gave you all the talents, abilities and spiritual gifts to let it remain dormant in you? Of course not. You have no excuse for being lazy.
Like the lazy servant in Matthew 25 who hid his talent to the ground, afraid that the master will demand more from him, God will call you unfaithful if you don’t utilise what He has given you for the benefit of many. Work is not a curse. God created it at the beginning of time, and Adam was the first benefactor of this privilege. So, don’t see it as a burden. Instead, see it as a way to harness what God has given you to impact many lives, even if it’s not directly related to preaching the gospel.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace and peace in my life. Help me to use whatever gifts, talents, and abilities You have given me to impact many lives. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
